Woodrow had always been interested in the ways in which material objects could tell stories and in the 2000s this interest developed significantly. It was partly facilitated by the ongoing development of his ambitious project The Beekeeper, which had started in the late 1990s. The early 2000s saw the casting of several bronze and gold leaf bee swarm sculptures, such as Clockswarm (2001) and Celloswarm (2002). However, the main developments of the decade were five new bodies of work that combined painted bronze heads and skulls, cast skeletal thickets and laminated MDF supports. These sculpture groups were: Revelators, Illuminators, Evaluators, Navigators, as well as a series of map drawings called Oscillators.
